Amazon starts selling smart grocery carts to other retail stores

Amazon is expanding its smart grocery cart technology, Dash Cart, to other retailers after testing it in some Price Chopper and McKeever’s Market stores. The cart uses computer vision and sensors to track items and calculate the total price in real-time as customers shop. This move follows a similar strategy to Amazon’s “Just Walk Out” cashier-less technology, which is being deployed in various third-party locations. Despite laying off some teams working on physical store technologies, Amazon remains committed to advancing its automated shopping experiences. The Just Walk Out technology has faced scrutiny for its use of human moderators to train AI models, though Amazon denies claims of live monitoring of shoppers.
