IBM Increases their Quantum Research

IBM researchers claim that quantum computing is showing promise as a crucial scientific research tool, dispelling concerns about its failure to meet high expectations. The company is set to reveal 10 projects highlighting the power of quantum calculation when combined with conventional supercomputing. These projects, done in collaboration with partners like Los Alamos National Laboratory and the University of Tokyo, focus on simulating quantum physics, solving chemistry and materials science problems. While quantum systems’ commercial applications are not yet widespread, IBM remains optimistic about their longer-term potential, outlining a 10-year timetable for more capable, “error-corrected” systems.
