Clubhouse launches group voice chats

Clubhouse, the live audio app, has introduced a new feature allowing users to send text messages that are read out in the sender’s custom voice, utilizing AI technology. This move comes as the app seeks to maintain relevance amidst declining user numbers. The company also introduced group voice chats resembling Instagram Stories, where users can send asynchronous voice messages. Clubhouse claims its AI can recreate users’ voices closely, even with minimal training, though it struggles with laughter. Additionally, the app can generate a voice for users uncomfortable with recording their own. Currently, this feature is only available in the U.S. Clubhouse’s user base has declined in recent years, prompting the company to explore AI-driven features to enhance user experience and retention. This move parallels Apple’s release of Personal Voice, aimed at aiding those at risk of losing their vocal abilities.
