If you’re trying to allow a team member to edit your company’s Brand Identity settings in HubSpot but they see a message saying they don’t have permission, the issue is usually tied to account-level permissions.
HubSpot restricts editing brand identity because those settings affect AI content generation, brand voice, and visual branding across your entire portal. Only users with the proper account access can modify them.
Here’s how to grant the correct permission.
Step-by-Step: Give a User Access to Edit Brand Identity
- Log in to HubSpot with an admin account.
- Click the Settings icon (⚙️) in the top right corner.
- In the left sidebar, go to:
Users & Teams
- Locate the user you want to update and click their name.
- Open the Access tab in their permissions panel.
- In the left permissions menu navigate to:
Account → User & account access
- Turn ON the permission:
Edit account defaults
- Click Save.
Why This Permission Is Required
HubSpot places Brand Identity controls under Account Defaults, not under marketing or content permissions.
When the Edit account defaults setting is enabled, the user can modify:
- Brand Identity settings
- Brand voice used for AI-generated content
- Logos and brand kit assets
- Account branding elements
- Default account appearance settings
Without this permission, users will see the message:
“You don’t have permission to edit brand identity settings. Please ask an admin to update your permissions.”
Alternative Option: Grant Super Admin Access
If the user needs broader control across HubSpot, an administrator can also assign Super Admin privileges. This automatically grants access to all account settings, including Brand Identity.
However, for most teams it’s better to enable only Edit account defaults to keep permissions more controlled.
Best Practice for Marketing Teams
For marketing or communications staff responsible for branding and content creation, administrators typically grant access to:
- Edit account defaults
- Marketing content permissions
- Email and campaign management
- Website or landing page editing
This setup allows team members to manage branding and content without giving them full administrative control of the HubSpot account.
Properly configuring user permissions ensures your team can manage branding tools in HubSpot while maintaining secure control over account settings.
