What are Ghost Kitchens?

Ghost kitchens operate entirely online, allowing customers to order through third-party delivery services, like GrubHub, DoorDash, or Uber Eats, and receive their food without any direct contact from the ghost restaurant itself.

Ghost kitchens aren’t invisible, but they’re often located in out-of-the-way spaces and don’t have conventional storefront exteriors.

More and more people are opting for delivery, rather than a sit-down meal. COVID-19 and social distancing measures have changed how restaurants operate

From February to April of 2020, there was a 169% increase in the number of restaurants actively using Online Ordering

There are also startups that builds kitchen commissaries for restaurants looking to enter new markets through delivery or take-out only like Reef Kitchens, and Kitchen United.

Chick-Fil-A, The Halal Guys and BurgerFi are among top brands that have opened ghost kitchens making it easier to deliver to customers who don’t have those restaurants close by.

Will this be the new norm?
